Schlitteda
Sleigh Parade

Even before the sun rises over the snow-covered mountains of St. Moritz in January, the men prepare their sleighs, harness the horses, and set off in tailcoats and top hats. The Schlitteda takes place here on a January weekend, blending tradition with winter elegance. The following weekend, the custom continues in Champfèr. The Schlitteda has been a part of Upper Engadine life for around 200 years. In the past, an invitation was almost a promise of engagement; today, it is open to everyone. What has remained is the tradition: the women sit in front, while the men steer the horses through the snow-covered landscape from behind.
