What is Reflection?
Our commitment to contemporary art in St. Moritz and beyond is dedicated to fostering moments of encounter and exchange, and aims to establish these in the region in a long-term and sustainable manner. Our focus is on a concrete local presence in the region, while simultaneously striving to connect with the world, make art accessible, and critically address changes affecting our natural, social, cultural, and intellectual landscapes.
Art has the potential to intertwine the perspectives of the world and the region—however contradictory they may be—and to place them in a new context. Art is an immense space of possibility that can connect ideas and people in an inspiring way. The radical potential of art lies in its ability to explore existential questions and make them tangible through all the senses. It is not merely there to be looked at, but seeks to be experienced, touched, heard, felt, and sometimes even played with. Its impact unfolds through dialogue and shared experience.
The REFLECTION program takes place in public spaces and reflects a public interest. Every two years, an artist is selected, and the artists are invited to spend time on site. The experiences, traces, and inspirations gathered during this process give rise to artworks that enter the urban landscape—either temporarily or permanently—and engage in a dialogue with it. The aim is a reflective expansion of the public experiential space, and the site-specific nature of the created work is a key element.
